The 2012 statement supporting Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi, raised in tonight’s Rogers–El-Sayed debate, is the source behind the second bullet in my article, “El-Sayed Is No JFK: A Question of Judgment.”
The bullet in my post appears dead but CHAT GPT was able to find the letter perhaps an archived copy,
The attached PDF contains the original Arabic statement and all 46 published signatory entries, followed by a translated excerpt and an abridged English summary. Readers can examine the source themselves.
Published by Al-Ahram on November 25, 2012, the statement endorsed Morsi’s extraordinary decisions and called for purging the media and police. It also expressed concern about concentrating power in the president and requested that the exceptional constitutional declaration expire once the constitution was completed. Both elements belong in an accurate account.
Entry 33 lists “Dr. Abdul Rahman El-Sayed — New York,” whom the Washington Free Beacon identified as the Michigan candidate. The substantive question is whether he signed this statement and, if so, how he now assesses the actions it supported.
